Chapman Fruit Smoothie

When it comes to sugary concoctions, it really doesn’t get more Nigerian than Chapman. A blend of Fanta, Sprite, Angostura aromatic bitters and juice, Chapman is a staple drink in restaurants across the country.

To switch up this Nigerian classic, I’ve made it into a smoothie by blending it with fruit of my choice – strawberries and blueberries – and ice. The result was a fruitier and less sweet version of the original, which, at my “old” age, is much appreciated. Try it out!

**I got the traditional Chapman recipe from allnigerianrecipies.com

Ingredients

Yields 2-3 servings

Chapman

¼ cup Grenadine Syrup

1-2 tbsp Angostura Aromatic Bitters

½ cup Fanta Orange (or other variations, i.e. Sunkist)

½ cup Sprite (or other variations, i.e. 7Up)

Juice of ½ an orange

Juice of ½ a lemon

Fruit Smoothie

½ cup frozen strawberries

½ cup frozen blueberries

1 cup ice

**Note that using fruit that isn’t frozen in not a deal breaker

Garnish

Orange slice

Strawberry

Blueberries

Mint leaves

Directions

1. Place all Chapman and fruit smoothie ingredients in a blender and blend until thick, but smooth.
2. Taste and adjust to your liking – you may want to add more bitters, more fruit, more juice, etc.
3.Serve in a glass and garnish with fruit and mint leaves

Is that yum or what?
